Get all the news regarding the software update for the Galaxy Note 8 handsets here, for all the popular models including those in the US at T-Mobile, Sprint, Cellular, AT&T, and Verizon Wireless. Accordingly, the page is divided into sections, as per model no., each having a table listing the latest software version and its changelog monthly security patches. We also discuss the Note 8’s eligibility for Android 10 and what are the alternatives. Will Note 8 get Android 10? The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is an exceptional device in its own right. Despite being over two years old, the device is still considered to be one of the best Note-series smartphones ever, and the legacy is set to remain untarnished for a long, long time. Sadly, Samsung’s not too keen on giving its 2017 devices a taste of the latest Android, so, it’s safe to say that Note 10, too, will not be updated to Android 10. → Android 10 release date Why Note 8 is not getting Android 10? Note 8 came with Android Nougat out of the box and has already received two Android OS upgrades Oreo and Pie since. Samsung usually limits its flagships to two major Android OS updates, and we don’t expect the company to break the pattern with Note 8. Galaxy S9 running Pie left Galaxy S10 running Android 10 right The Note 8 may not get the Android 10 update officially, but all hope isn’t certainly lost. Geniuses over at XDA Developers have a reputation for supporting outdated devices, and you’d be wise to keep tabs on the Note 8 development thread. Even if an unofficial Android 10 comes out, it won’t probably be before Q1 of 2020. So, make sure to manage your expectations. Software update timeline Global Note 8 Android 10 is not expected on the Galaxy Note 8 as the device is past its two guaranteed OS updates Pie and Oreo, having launched with Android Nougat. Last updated September 17th, 2019 at 1531 UTC+0200 Is my Galaxy S8 or Galaxy Note 8 going to be updated to Android 10? That’s a question many have been asking in the last couple of months, and with Google recently releasing the Android 10 update for its Pixel devices, interest in the newest version of the OS has increased further. While Samsung will update plenty of phones to Android 10, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 are not going to be among them. No Android 10 update for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 The reason is simple Samsung has always offered only two major upgrades for its flagship devices. The company also provides the same number of major upgrades to mid-range and budget devices as well, and while it’s unfortunate that Samsung doesn’t make a distinction between flagship phones and lower-end devices, it is what it is. The Galaxy S8, S8+, and Galaxy Note 8 were launched with Android Nougat out of the box and were subsequently updated to Android Oreo and Android Pie, so they have already received the updates they were eligible for. In short, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and Galaxy Note 8 users are going to have to make do with Android Pie on their phones and will need to buy a newer Galaxy smartphone — like a Galaxy S9, Note 9, Galaxy S10, or Galaxy Note 10 — to take advantage of Android 10 and version of Samsung’s One UI interface, which will accompany the Android 10 update. Even if Samsung changes its mind and decides to offer a third major upgrade for its flagship phones, the company is unlikely to apply the updated policy to its 2017 Galaxy S and Note flagships. Are you rocking a Galaxy S8, S8+ or Galaxy Note 8? Would Android 10 be a reason you would upgrade to a newer phone, or are you content with the features you are able to take advantage of on Android Pie? Samsung’s customer reps keep saying that the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 will get Android 10, despite the company’s official roadmap. Again. So maybe, just maybe, Samsung has changed its mind? It seems unlikely, but let’s review the facts so September 2019 Samsung announced its decision not to update the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 phones to Android 10 despite being its 2017 flagship. The shameless decision fell in line with previous upgrade policy from the Korean company, but it still was especially surprising because Samsung is updating the Galaxy A7 to Android 10. That’s a phone that arguably has much less firepower than the S8 and that was released in the same year. The decision to not support its 2017 flagship is entirely a marketing one, not a technical one. Simply, if you want a flasgship with the latest and greatest OS, you must burn your credit card into a new Galaxy or Note every two years — period. Compare that to Apple, who last year released iOS 13 for every iPhone all the way down to the iPhone 6s and the humble iPhone SE, which were released in 2015 and 2016, respectively.Image credit AndroidPureBut I digress. Regardless of this being a shameless and shameful planned obsolescence move, in November 2019 we got a glimmer of hope Samsungs customer care told a “disgruntled Galaxy S8 owner” that his phone will get the Android 10 update after course, this may have been a glitch in the Matrix — a lone and embarrassed customer rep telling a user what he wanted to hear. But today SamMobile reports of new signs from Samsung’s customer care, whose reps are still repeating the same thing the Galaxy S8 and the Note 8 will get the Android 10 update in 2020. Here’s a screenshot of an exchangeImage credit SamMobileAgain, it could still be a case of reps saying whatever in error. But it seems that there may be a pattern here. Could this be true? Are these two models really “eligible to receive the new Android 10 version“? Is deployment really happening “during this year 2020”?We can only hope so. Otherwise, Samsung, you are really screwing up for a lot of Galaxy S8 A great phone for a great priceWhich Samsung phones will get the Android 10 update?Apple’s slowdowns linked to planned obsolescence?
